2011 Winning Community for Young People

Hamden is a Winner in the 100 Best Communities for Young People contest

Residents of our Hamden rental apartments are proud that their town received recognition from America’s Promise Alliance as one of 2011’s 100 best communities for young people in the nation. This award was granted because all of Hamden’s sectors come together to support children, from schools, local businesses, town agencies and non-profits.

The focus for all this support is the Hamden Partnership for Young Children, where community members partner to discuss and implement programs that improve the services and resources for local youth.

There are many additional programs which supplement the Partnership all around the community that helped Hamden gain recognition. The Kinder-Prep initiative provides resources to families with young students to achieve success in the instrumental early years of schooling. The superintendent’s Student Advisory Committee is a student-run group that meets directly with the superintendent to give students a direct voice to authority and help shape local educational policy. The “Putting on Airs” program provides asthma supplies and relief to students and their families. SAILS at Hamden Middle School and RAISES at Hamden High School identify top rung students and challenge them with higher-level coursework.

Practice Fire Safety with your Holiday Decorations at Hamden Rental Apartments

Posted On: Sunday, December 25th, 2011
Be sure to decorate safely.

If you're planning on making decorations like this, you definitely need to brush up on your safety tips.

We all know not to overload circuits, bypass safety measures and use shoddy extensions cords when it comes to everyday living. There are plenty of seasonal safety matters to keep in mind, when it comes to holiday decorations. If you’re a resident of Hamden rental apartments, then here are a few safety tips to keep your home safe from dangerous accidents.

On the electric side, make sure you check your lights every year for parts that may be worn out, missing lights and fuses, gaps in insulation or anything else that causes the lights to look or act questionable. With fire hazards, if there is a question it’s always better to play it safe and repair if you can or replace. LED decorations are commonly available now, and are both cooler and more energy-efficient, so there’s less worry for fire hazard and lower electricity bills. (more…)

Many Charity Opportunities in Stamford

The American Red Cross are just one way to give back in Stamford this holiday season.

There are many opportunities for residents of Stamford rental apartments to enjoy the season by lending a hand to those less fortunate. The Stamford Apartments Leasing Center at 112 Hoyt Street is holding a food drive for our local food bank.

There are lots of other chances for giving back in Stamford. Saint Luke’s LifeWorks, the Stamford center for children, is holding its 22nd annual Holiday Gift collection for more than 2,500 children affected by poverty and/or disease living in Fairfield County. Animal lovers have options to give back to either PAWs Connecticut or Outreach to Pets in Need through local shops and restaurants giving percentages back to charity. Local banks and churches are holding toy drives, and the sidewalk Santas are already out ringing their bells to give you the convenience of giving on the go. (more…)

Earth Day, the Perfect Time to “Go Green”

Posted On: Friday, April 15th, 2011

With Earth Day 2011 just around the corner, it’s time to start thinking about making a difference for Mother Nature. To learn more about Earth Day, visit the website. If you live in one of the great Hamden or New Haven apartments near Sleeping Giant Park, you are very much aware of the changing seasons and the fact that it will suddenly “become spring” in spite of all the cold weather we’ve been having. The ground will soon become green, foliage will begin to appear and flowers will start to bloom. In line with the upcoming change in our outdoor environment and anticipation of warmer weather, most of us start thinking about spring cleaning.

Whether cleanup efforts are at home or in the workplace, the first step is to take a look at the resources around you. Once you do this, you can then check options for going green that suit your location, budget and work or lifestyle. One of the most significant ways to launch your personal green campaign is to simply use less of everything including water, cleaning products, fuel and, of course, disposable plastic bags. Make a habit of turning off lights when you leave a room at home or in the office, and try using more natural light when possible. (more…)

March Winds and April Showers

Posted On: Tuesday, March 1st, 2011

As we hopefully leave winter’s rage behind us, in Connecticut we look forward to the sunny skies and warming temps of spring. But not so quick; seems that before we get a real peek at spring up here in our Hamden, CT apartments, we must first combat the windy gusts of March often known to arrive as early as mid February. So hold onto your hats, hair and umbrellas as you venture out to do your shopping chores or you will look much like our windy lady.

In spite of the crisp temps and cold winds, if you decide to get out and travel north in Connecticut, you can take Exit 60 off the Merritt near Sleeping Giant Park to view apartments with large floor plans within walking distance to shopping and dining. These Hamden apartments are near Yale, Quinnipiac College, Southern CT State and New Haven U.

To get you into the spirit of things, here’s a nursery rhyme perfect for the windy days ahead:
March Wind
March wind is a jolly fellow;
He likes to joke and play. (more…)

She Loves You. . . The Beatles Return to Bridgeport, CT

Posted On: Tuesday, February 22nd, 2011

The Downtown Cabaret Theatre is featuring the Beatles musical review for the third time in three years; catch it quick because it runs only through Sunday, Feb 27th.  This nostalgic musical experience is portrayed by actors playing the “Fab Four” who sing and play very much like the original legendary Liverpool band. Out of the 30 old tunes collected and played for this presentation entitled, “She Loves You,” you are bound to be disappointed at not hearing some of your other favorites, but you will certainly be thrilled at the tunes you do hear, not to mention the talent and passing resemblance this group holds to the originals.

And by the way, the special encores during the finale are a real plus. If you decide to attend, you can be assured that you will not be unable to remain seated. Hey, after all, is there anyone in the world out there that doesn’t love the Beatles. Picture this: A goofy, but appealing Ringo plays drums like a cracker jack, there’s the soulful John, a perfectly in-tune look-alike filling in as George, and an ideal very dashing Paul complete with charm and charisma. Don’t miss it – venture on down to Bridgeport the short distance from your Hamden apartments near Quinnipiac College or your convenient Branford apartments. It’s definitely a cheerful break from the winter doldrums!

For more info, you can call the box office at 203 576-1636 or log onto www.DowntownCabaret.org.
