Jazz on the Green in Branford

Posted On: Wednesday, June 8th, 2011

Sponsored by the Town of Branford, the Branford Recreation Department and Blue Plate Radio Station, The Branford Jazz Series continues for its third consecutive year in 2011. It offers nine shows starting Thursday, June 30 and ending Thursday, August 25. The venue is Branford Green at 1019 Main Street, and if you live in one of our Branford rental apartments at Montoya, there’s practically no travel time! Show time is 6:30 pm.

The first of performance of the series features one of Connecticut’s new, young smooth jazz artists, Vincent Ingala. He plays all instruments and, more amazingly, he is only 17 years old. His musical knowledge of classic tunes and jazz were instilled in him by his Dad who was a DJ in the Waterbury, CT area. His performances have captured the pulse of this genre of music, and critics agree that this is a young man with huge potential. (more…)

HAPPY HUNTING

Posted On: Wednesday, April 20th, 2011

Every spring (at least so far) the earth comes back to life. Of course, this event has been cause for celebration for thousands of years. And for almost as long, the egg has been associated with the fertility and rebirth embodied by spring. Thus, when Easter came in being, first as a pagan holiday and then as a Christian one, of course the Easter egg could not be far behind.

Folks took these ceremonies seriously, and Easter eggs of amazing people were created. But for children, back then and today, Easter eggs were for hunting. According to some sources, part of this tradition goes back to when children thought rabbits (another ancient symbol of fertility) laid eggs, specifically, Easter eggs.

For children who live in Branford apartments, there are several egg hunts this coming week. Here are three of them, with links included for more information.
