Stepping Stones Children’s Museum Offers Fun Near Norwalk Apartments

Stepping Stones is great for kids

The Stepping Stones Museum for Children in Norwalk has great activities for kids.

As a parent in one of our Norwalk apartments, getting motivated to go out into the cold can be hard; especially if you live in Morningside Gardens. After all, you have just about everything you need here – a fully equipped kitchen, a well-maintained building in a convenient location and plenty of parking.

On the other hand, if the kids are spending too much time in front of the T.V. or in front of a computer, then it’s time to get them out and moving. A great place to take them to is the Stepping Stones Museum for Children. This winter there’s a new exhibit guaranteed to get even your cutest little couch-potatoes interested called “Run! Jump! Fly! Adventure Action.” It motivates children to get moving by making physical activity fun across four adventure scenes and an “action star training center” which provides imaginative settings where children can try out surfing, kung fu, yoga, climbing and more. The exhibit invites visitors to put their balance, strength, endurance and coordination to the test through playful, non-competitive physical challenges. (more…)

Pet Lovers Flock to our Norwalk Apartments

It only takes a little effort to keep pets and plants in harmony

There's always a place for pets at Morningside Gardens

While many rental communities have adopted a no-pets policy, residents of our Morningside Gardens Norwalk apartments are fortunate to live in a pet friendly community where cats, birds, fish (and even the occasional turtle!) are welcome. We understand that many residents consider their pets as part of their family and naturally want to bring them along when they move in.

With the colder weather and shortened days, we will all be spending more time together indoors. If you have houseplants, and a cat, then you might want to take a few precautions to be sure both the plants and your kitty stay safe. Remember that cats naturally like a bit of greenery like grass to chew on. You may wish to grow some lemon grass or catnip for them as an alternative. Plants do provide them with needed nutrients, and the absence of those nutrients may be causing their grazing. (more…)

Lockwood-Mathews Museum is close to Norwalk Apartments

Norwalk apartments residents should visit the Lockwood-Mathews museum's historical holiday events

Just about a half mile from our Morningside Gardens Norwalk apartments, you’ll find one of the true gems of Norwalk, the Lockwood-Mathews Mansion Museum located in Mathews Park. There are plenty of reasons to stop in during the holiday season for both those that have never taken the opportunity to visit and museum enthusiasts.

The museum is a national historic landmark as one of the earliest and most significant Second Empire Style country homes in the United States. It was built by financier and railroad baron LeGrand Lockwood from 1864 to 1868, during and shortly after the Civil War. It was later  the primary residence of Miss Florence Mathews, who kept the home at the peak of lavish civility even throughout the Great Depression. With its 62 rooms, 44,000 square feet and Gilded Age interiors and furniture, it beautifully illustrates the splendor of Victorian Era.

The magnificent Entrance Hall will be decorated by floral designer Danna DiElsiowner of The Silk Touch in Norwalk, CT, using only the finest imported silk for all the floral arrangements. The main holiday event is titled “Grand Victorian Holiday at the Mansion.” It consists of three different exhibits and spaces.

They can just enjoy the cool temperatures. And when they go inside, there are some steps they can take to bring the fresh air in with them and “go green” at the same time.

Have a Blast from the Past at The Maritime Aquarium

Posted On: Friday, July 29th, 2011

Talk about a Blast from the Past! Have you heard about the new exhibit of life-sized robotic dinosaurs during “Dinosaur Summer” at The Maritime Aquarium? It’s just about one mile away from our Morningside Gardens Stamford apartment rentals on Prospect  Street: so it’s easy for our residents to zip on over for the show, then be back home in just minutes instead of sitting in holiday traffic.

The exhibit is part of a dinosaur triple play that also includes the IMAX movie “T-Rex: Back to the Cretaceous” and the simulator ride-film “Dino Island II: Escape from Dinosaur Island” that runs every 10 minutes so there’s never a long wait. The robotic exhibit lets kids imagine what it might have been like to grow up as a dinosaur – how fast young dinosaurs grew, how big they got, what they ate and how they were protected from danger. The dinosaurs move, roar – even blink their eyes – in realistic fashion. But they’re fully lighted – not dark and scary – in an educational dinosaur exhibit fit for even the youngest visitor. One “cut-away” display will even offer a peek inside a robotic dinosaur, so kids can see how it works and even control it. And an outdoor “fossil dig” will entertain budding paleontologists. (more…)
